Tier4 : The Big Fuel Test

Visitors at our Isle of Wight Open Day last in March were treated to a great working demonstration of the new Tier4 engine in action.

To demonstrate the comparison in fuel usage, we took a New Holland T7.210 and set it against a John Deere 6930 Premium.

Both had a clear sight glass fitted and were filled with fuel, and then overfilled by 4 litres to illustrate how the levels of fuel consumption differ.

Both tractors were warmed up to temperature for 5 minutes before the test. They were then run at the same time at 1,000 PTO speed for 20 minutes.

Over the 20 minutes, our results revealed that the New Holland SAVED:

NH FUEL SAVING

= 750ml in the 20 minute test
= 2.25 litres saved over an hour
= 27 litres saved over an average working day

NH COST SAVING

Taking 75p per litre as an average fuel cost that's a saving of £20.25 per day.
= a saving of £141.75 per 7 day week

NH ADBLUE COST

The New Holland T7.210 has a Tier4 engine, so requires AdBlue in the exhaust system to reduce emissions. In this test, the ratio of AdBlue needed to diesel was 3%.

That equates to 5 litres used per day @ 38p per litre
= £1.90 spend on AdBlue per day

THE RESULT: NH T7.210 v JD6930 Premium

In our test the New Holland saved £20.25 in diesel costs in a day, minus the cost of the AdBlue at £1.90 per day

= £18 per day

= £128 saving per week

= £500 saving per month
